My setup is alot different now!
I change
wallpapers like dirty clothes, although I usually leave my icons alone.
Notice there are no icons on my desktop. I got tired of looking at those
a long time ago. It's easy to lose most of the windows default icons using
Powertoys, a collection of highly useful little utilities the Win95 developers
made to enhance Windows. (PowerToys
for Windows 95) MicroSoft won't support them, but makes the download
available.
I've assigned keyboard shortcuts
to all my frequently used icons. I probably use control+shift+c the most,
which is my C: drive. Notice the partition icon with the C - that's my
physical shortcut. You have to have a shortcut icon in your start menu
somewhere before a keyboard combination can be assigned. The deeper I
go with my PC, the more I am coming to rely on keyboard combos. Shovin'
a mouse around gets old, and is slow.
The BZ icon stands for Blitzin,
which is the graphical interface for ICC, which stands for the Internet
Chess Club. (Click
Here To Start Playing Chess)I've spent many happy hours there, and
have played people from most European countries, and many miscellaneous
global points.
As I mentioned, C stands for
my C: drive partition (I keep two partitions on my hard drive; in case
I need to format I have somewhere to stash my stuff without getting backup
crazy, although I keep important files on my Syquest anyway). FP
stands for FrontPage98, which in my opinion is the premiere web development
program out. It's a typical MS program in that it's loaded with features,
incredibly complex, yet it's not bad to jump into cold and still get around.
You know what the IE4 and MC
icons are. The T+ icon stands for Thumbs+, an indispensable shareware
graphics viewer, which also includes many formatting tools. (Cerious
Software - The Home of ThumbsPlus!) The X icon stands for Outlook
Express, maybe IE4's best feature.
MicroAngelo is a little suite
of icon utilities to create, view, edit, animate, and manipulate icons
on a desktop. (Impact
Software - Home of Microangelo) That's how I customized my Start Menu.
My 11 year old James made a bunch of icons using it, some of which are
available on the icon page in the freebies section.
